The layout engine for tile setters.

Type in the wall and the tile. Tilewise finds the start line that keeps slivers off every visible edge, balances the cuts, and gives you the cut list and box count.

Example layout. Starting from the left wall leaves a 1-inch sliver at the right wall. Centering a grout joint on the wall gives a 6-1/2 inch cut on each side.

What it checks

The layout math, done before the first cut.

Pros work this out with a tape, a story pole, and arithmetic on a piece of cardboard. Tilewise runs the same math in seconds and shows its work.

How it works

From tape measure to chalk line.

  1. Measure

Enter the surface, openings, tile size, and joint width. Inches and fractions, or metric.

  2. Compare layouts

Tilewise ranks start positions by smallest cut and balance, and tells you why in plain terms.

  3. Snap the line

Get the start line as a measurement off a fixed edge, a cut list to 1/16", and what to order.

The output

Numbers you can work from.

Big type, measured off something you can hook a tape on. Readable at arm's length on a tablet propped on a bucket.

Tile setters and contractors

Speed on site, 1/16" precision, and a layout you can show the client before the first cut. When pros and DIYers want different things, the pro wins.

Serious DIYers

The same engine, with plain-language steps on top: "Start your first row 3-1/4" above the tub."

FAQ

Questions

What is Tilewise?

Tilewise is a tablet-first layout app for tile setters. It finds the start line that keeps slivers off every visible edge and balances the cuts, then gives you the cut list and how much tile to order.

What's a sliver, and why does it matter?

A sliver is a thin strip of cut tile, usually under half a tile, left at a wall, corner, or cabinet edge because the layout started from the wrong place. It's the first thing that gives away a rushed job, and it's what Tilewise is built to catch before you cut.

Is Tilewise available on iOS or Android?

Yes, both. Tilewise is tablet first and works on phones too.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Every core feature works without a signal, so basements and new builds are no problem.

Can I use Tilewise today?

Not publicly yet. Tilewise is in private beta with a small group of professional tile setters. Request early access and we'll reach out when there's room.
